Like LIPTON TEA??? Bet you wont after reading this post....

>> Tuesday, December 21, 2010

I was seriously disturbed after reading this email that I got from PETA regarding Lipton Tea and what they do to poor innocent BABY animals. I never assumed that tea making processes would require the use of animals but boy was I wrong....and whattaya know? The company behind Lipton is UNILEVER! The same company that allows BAD BRANDS like DOVE, SUAVE, CALVIN KLEIN and ELIZABETH ARDEN to test on animals.
Here is the email, please read and take to heart. Thank You.

"Before taking your next sip of tea, check the label on the tea box or bottle because you might discover that you are drinking a cupful of cruelty to animals. The company behind Lipton teas has been testing (and paying others to test) tea—a beverage that has been consumed for thousands of years—on animals. The tea giant has caused animals to suffer and die simply to make marketing claims about its tea products and ingredients. Not one of the experiments that the company conducted was legally required for beverage makers, and regulators have stated that animal tests are not sufficient to prove a health claim about a product.

In these cruel and painful tests, rabbits, mice, rats, and piglets were tortured and then killed by decapitation and suffocation, among other methods. Following are more of the horrific details about what happened to the animals who were used in the company's experiments:

  • Rabbits were fed a high-fat, cholesterol-laden diet, leading to extreme hardening of the arteries. They were then fed tea to see if it affected the lesions that formed on the animals' arteries. After the experiment, the rabbits' heads were cut off.

  • Mice bred to suffer from a painful bowel inflammation were fed tea ingredients in order to see if the tea had any effect on their condition. After the test, experimenters killed the mice by suffocating them or breaking their necks.

    • Rats were forced to eat a high-sugar diet, and then tea was given to the animals to see if it had an impact on their sugar-induced brain damage. Other rats had their abdominal wall punctured and were fed radioactively labeled tea ingredients through a tube in their stomachs in order to examine the absorption of tea in the body. Then they were killed, frozen with liquid nitrogen, and crushed.

  • Piglets were exposed to E. coli toxin and then fed tea in order to see if the tea affected fluid loss and diarrhea. As part of the tests, experimenters cut the pigs' intestines apart while the animals were still alive. The piglets were then killed.
Modern, cruelty-free research methods are available and in use by other leading beverage companies around the world. We need YOU to join us in telling the makers of Lipton to ditch its crueltea to animals and use non-animal methods instead.
Send an e-mail to Dave Lewis, dave.lewis@unilever.com, president of Unilever Americas (Lipton's parent company), and politely ask him to stop testing tea and tea ingredients on animals. If your message can't be delivered, please e-mail the company using its contact form

Also, make sure that your voice is heard by calling Dave Lewis' office at 201-567-8000. (Please note that offices are only open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET.)

Sample e-mail text is provided below to help you draft your message.
Subject:
Stop Cruel Tea Experiments on Animals
Body:
I was shocked to learn that your company, which makes Lipton tea, experiments on animals simply to make health claims about its tea products and ingredients. In the experiments, piglets were infected with
E. coli and had their intestines cut apart while the animals were still alive; rats were fed a high-sugar diet, causing them to develop brain damage; and rabbits were fed a cholesterol-laden diet, causing them to develop hardened arteries, and then had their heads cut off.

U.S. and international regulators do not require the makers of food and beverages to conduct tests on animals.

The makers of Honest Tea, Twinings, Stash Tea, Luzianne Tea, and other companies have all sent PETA written confirmation that they do not test their teas or ingredients on animals.

Please stop these cruel and outdated tests and institute a policy against conducting and funding tea tests on animals. I won't buy Lipton tea products—and will only support tea brands that don't test on animals—until your company stops testing tea and tea ingredients on animals."
Can you just fucking imagine that cruel shit!? It makes me sick to my stomach. I hate this company with a burning passion. Sick Fucks. I hope this inspires you all to take action. These actions are UNACCEPTABLE and needs to be stopped ASAP. For more info, please go here: http://www.peta.org/action/action-alerts/Tell-Lipton-Tea-to-Stop-Torturing-Animals.aspx

FOTD & kitty pictures!!!

>> Monday, December 6, 2010

Beauty bloggers - have you ever took a million pictures for a FOTD and ended up liking only 2? This was one of those posts for me lol. Heres a look I did yesterday when I got to hang out with a few of my very best friends. I used MAC's prolongwear foundation for the first time and I loved it. The finish of ProlongWear is feels way better than ColorStay. The only thing I didnt like was that when I took these pictures with flash, the flash made my face look 3 shades lighter than my neck! Hopefully these pictures dont reflect how it looks in person.
My eyeliner is a little lot messed up here lol...I used Milani's Infinite liner (similiar to liquidlast, see comparison/swatches here) and when it dries it DRIES! The only way to remove it is with a cleansing oil..So when applying it I noticed I did the wing of it uneven to my left eye so I just tried to save it my applying a new line which only made it worst! I didnt bother so start over though because it wasnt noticeable unless I was looking down..and plus, I was with my besties...Im sure they wouldnt mine even if I wore lime green squiggly eyeliner :)

Heres what I used:

Face:
MAC Prolongwear foundation in NW30
MAC Prolongwear concealer in NW25
Wet N Wild Bronzer in Goddess for contour

Eyes:
ELF eyelid primer
NYX smokey brown all over lid
ELF Beauty Encyclopedia pictured below (see review/swatches here)
- Dark Brown blended into crease
- Beige for inner tear duct and browbone
Milani Infinite Eyeliner in Everlast
MAC zoomlash

Eyebrows:
ELF eyeliner in Ash

Cheeks:
Nyx Blush in pinched

Lips:
Nada! These were the only decent pics and they were all before I applied lipstick. I ended up using Cut-A-Caper, my new favorite!

Also, saturday I went to my parents house for a small dinner with my mom side because my mom got the new dancing game for Kinect and she wanted us all to play. It was so much fun! Im actually still sore from playing that and the sports one. My auntie liked it so much she bought one for herself and we're all going to her house for dinner tomorrow to play again. I wish I remembered I had my camera in my bag the while time! When I realized it was in there everyone left already so I took a bunch of pictures of my sisters cute kitty Sugar Pie. She is a 7 month old persian and absolutely adorable! My sister named her Sugar pie since my cat (who lives there) is named Honey, so now we call my cat Honey Bunch :) I miss her sooooo bad! I couldnt take her with me cuz my guy is allergic and it kills me everyday!!! I keep thinking of just taking her back and when my man comes home Ill just tell him, "Well MY cat isnt allergic to YOU!!!" lol Its okay thought, he said we can get a cat on my birthday. (Hes only allergic to certain cats) I couldnt get any good pictures of my little Honey cat but heres some pics of Sugar Pie

Hope you all are having a great start to the week! Thanks for reading!

OCC Lip Tars Swatches & Review

>> Wednesday, December 1, 2010

Ok so Ive mentioned before on twitter that I LOVE OCC Lip Tars! I got a whole bunch of colors in sample sizes here a couple months ago for a really good price but unfortunately they dont sell them anymore :( ...but if your interested in purchasing them, here is the site where you can buy them directly for the full price and quantity ($12.50 for 8ml). OCC lip tars are opaque liquid lip colors that dry to a semi-matte lipstick finish. They are meant to be mixed together but since the color selection is so vast, a lot of the colors can stand on their own. Please see below for my breakdown and review

PROS
- These are EXTREMELY LONG LASTING. If youre going out for a night of hot sweaty dancing (or hot sweaty anything ;)) and you put one of these bad boys on, you will NOT have to re-apply...even through dinner! (unless of course you eat like a baby, you may have to re-apply...but just a tad bit)
- VERY PIGMENTED. When they say opaque, they mean it! and since they are so pigmented be aware that A LITTLE GOES A LOOOOONNNNG WAY. See pics below for exactly what I mean by that
- They have a minty scent to them, but its not overpowering by any means
- wide selection of color
- cruelty free :)

CONS
- They STAIN! This is a testament to their long lasting power. This is a big con to me because if you get some on your fingers or if it smears on your mouth while you are applying it, you WILL look like the joker.
- You MUST use a brush to apply these since they are so pigmented. If you dont already have one then this is just one extra cost on top of the $12.50 price tag. These lip tars need to be built up and you need to take care when applying them.
- Most colors will settle into the cracks of your lips so if you have chapped lips, you can NOT wear these. Once it sets it will dry your lips even more

COLORS & SWATCHES
This is how little you need to cover your whole mouth!

OCC Lip Tar in DIVINE
Its described on the site as a vivid pink flamingo color which I see true but when applied it barely looks pink! It looks like an extremely light peach color, like peach yogurt

OCC Lip Tar in CHA CHA
a creamy cantaloupe color

OCC Lip Tar in Memento
My favorite one!!! Ive worn this over 20 times and look how much I have left! This is the most wearable color and it is a mauvy dusty pink color...very pretty!

OCC Lip Tar in NSFW
The perfect red! Suitable for all skin tones in my opinion

OCC Lip Tar in Demure
A full fuchsia with a touch of violet. If Hoochie and Pageant had a baby, Demure would be it

OCC Lip Tar in Grandma
A warm coral color. This was actually the color I wanted to try the most but I find for my skin tone it isnt wearable at all! the orange undertone is way too strong for me

OCC Lip Tar in Hoochie
This a a beautiful, and very wearable purple magenta color. It just calls for a little black dress :)

OCC Lip Tar in Pageant
Similiar to Hoochie as this is a striking magenta color but has a more evident pink undertone. this reminds me of MAC's Girl About Town

Memento is the color that I will definitely purchase full price when I run out. The other colors I would love to try is ANIME, TROLLOP & MELANGE so if you have them, please direct me!

Hope you enjoyed this post and thanks for reading!!!

I need Beauty advice!!! Please Read!

>> Tuesday, November 30, 2010

There are a few items that I REALLY REALLY REALLY NEED *WANT* but Im refraining from buying because I want to get these items for good quality as well as a good price. Here is where I need your help! Hopefully some of you want to know the answers to these questions as well....

Do you know a dupe for MAC's Highland Honey/Peaches that is from a brand CHEAPER than MAC?
I want to try that blush so badly but I don't see me wearing that color everyday. Im looking for a cheaper alternative and who knows? If I like the color I may just buy it MAC

Do you know of a good MASCARA that washes off easy AND can withstand an eyelash curler?
I hate wearing mascara because its such a pain to wash off! I cant wear falsies everyday so I need a good suggestion of one that its easy to wash off at night but still offers major volume and length. Most that do offer volume and length get clumpy when I curl them
Do you know of a LIP BALM that moistens AND repairs????
I stress the word "REPAIR" Im really bad at remembering to put chap stick on and by the time I remember its too late and my lips are already chapped! Its been more prevalent now that we are in winter and I need one that heals my lips, preferably one that doesn't hurt and has a strong smell...

***ALL PICS TAKEN FROM GOOGLE IMAGES***

So those are my burning questions...I thought I had more but guess not lol. Please be so kind as to answer these for me. If you have any questions as well, ask them in the comment form and I will be more than happy to answer you back on your blog or email (please include). Thanks!

MAC Haul/Swatches - Prolongwear Concealer, Foundation & Cut A Caper Lippie

Hey ya'll! I was pleasantly surprised this morning to receive my MAC package that I ordered Sunday night, Im so happy they had a free overnight shipping deal for cyber Monday! Quick vent: I hate shopping malls, I only go when its a MUST!...something about the crowds and unruly children annoys me so bad! Dont get me wrong, Leah Luhv da kids but it bothers me how some parents let their children walk so far away from them! I always see some child walking unattended then I get scared and think, "omg! someones gonna snatch him! I gotta alert the authorities" then I see a parent wayyyyy down the aisle pushing an empty stroller. Im not a parent but if I should be so blessed one day I swear my kids will be walking arms-length from me until theyre like 15 lol. Vent, ended. Moving on...

Ive been waiting to purchase the ProLongwear (PL) Concealer and Foundation ever since I went to MAC last month and a MUA applied it on me. It lasted ALL DAY! Unfortunately both the concealer and foundation in my shade (NW25/30) was sold out :( I still have a lot of my trusty old ColorStay but Im beginning to become increasingly annoyed by the no-pump glass bottle. I knew I wanted to order it online but I wanted to wait for friday so I can get the PINK FRIDAY lipstick. Did any of you get PINK FRIDAY??? If so, PUH-LEEEEZEE direct me to your review. I have Snob and Pink Noveau...not to mention a million other similiar color lippies so Im going back an forth whether I should buy it or not...is it worth it??? Of course, it was sold out...BUT to my surprise, as I was ordering the Concealer & Foundation online Sunday, I found that they re-stocked Cut A Caper!!! Ive been wanting it so bad since I missed out on Jazzed! Cant wait to wear it and I will update w/ a FOTD soon :) Here are some pics, swatches & Review

MAC Prolongwear Foundation in NW30, $29.50
Finally found my color match!!! Ive read many reviews on this saying the coverage is full but IMO its has light to medium coverage. It dries on a bit dewy but can easily be mattified with a finishing powder. I love MATTE finishes so I always shied away from this but fell in love when the MAC MUA first applied.
See how well it blends, you can tell where I applied it on my skin where its a bit shiny
MAC Prolongwear Concealer in NW25, $16.50
I initially wanted the Studio Finish Concealer because it was water proof but then I thought...Its not like I dip my face underwater on a daily basis get sweaty easy. Perhaps Ill buy it in the summer. The are the same price anyway except that the PL Concealer yields .06 more product, and comes in a pump! Youre more at risk for wrinkes using your fingers to apply makeup due to the constant tugging.
You can see more color of the foundation here, the pink undertone is so evident! Hopefully this still works on my face...Seeing this makes me think I may be NW25. I get lighter during the winter months
MAC Lipstick in Cut A Caper, $14.50
Im so happy I got this! I just checked online and its sold out already. To me this lipstick is EXACTLY how it is desribed on the site - a midtone peachy pink...moreso on the pink side. Its so pretty! I must stress though that this is VERY VERY SHEER!!!! The swatches are taken after Ive applied it with like 5 or 6 strokes! Nothing that cant be remedied with a little concealer or lip erase though

Did you do any damage this past Black Friday/Cyber Monday??? I would really like to know because I usually dont shop during Black Friday and Im curious if the deals are really worth it...

Hope ya'll are having a wonderful day today! Thanks for reading loves :)

My dining room decor inspired by House of Grace

>> Saturday, November 27, 2010

Before I start, I would like to say Happy (belated) Thanksgiving! Hope you all had a wonderful one! We hosted Thanksgiving at our house this year and although it was fun, it was the first time I missed thanksgiving on my side and I missed them very much. Nonetheless, thanksgiving brought good food, good company, and a million reasons to be thankful.

Ok so on to the the main topic of the blogpost...I recently flew the nest and moved into my first home. Slowly but surely Im working to get this empty house decorated and one of the first projects I tackled was the dining room. I still need to add some window treatments but either than that its pretty much completed. My style is very traditional, and I love pure whites & neutral shades, floral patterns and classic timeless pieces. My favorite decor is shabby chic, but since I live with a man, I have to compromise a little. He doesnt fancy the ultra femme cute cottage-y decor very much.

I am currently working on a wrought iron theme for the house and this is all due to a little plaque my mom bought for me years ago (I think it was still when I was in high school or first year of college!) Theres a funny story behind the plaque...

So I'm sure everyone's heard these famous words...
"Dance as though no one is watching you. Love as though no one has hurt you. Sing as though no one can hear you. Live as though heaven's on earth."
This quote is especially dear to me because it was the quote that ended one of my favorite soap operas - My Name is Sam Soon...(which I should add, I have a thing for foreign soap operas/telenovelas even though I cant understand them lol but thats another story) Anyways, I seen a beautiful wrought iron plaque with those words one day shopping at Target with my mom and told her, "OMG I love this, if I ever move out Im gonna buy this for my house" So a couple days after I said that to my mom she surprises me with it and says, "Here, move out now" LOL This may sound mean but let me tell you, I am unhealthily attached to my parents, if it were my choice I would seriously live with them FOREVER! The only reason I moved is because they are moving 2 1/2 hours away and I didnt want to get uprooted this close to graduating. They want me to be more independent and they've been trying to pry me off them for years haha

Fast forward years later and here I am. Ive been adding home design blogs to my long list of makeup blogs that I follow, and one of the first and fave blogs I follow is creatingahouseofgrace.blogspot.comHer style is very similar to mine and its a style that both my guy and I can agree with. My whole dining room decor was completely inspired by hers. Check out her beautiful dining room here. I fell in love with it when I first read the post. I thought it was incredibly clever how she added design pieces on a serving tray for the centerpiece. Our table its pretty long so I had to order a runner online that ran 90" Luckily I found one at potterybarn but not for cheap! The runner her was $29! Im proud to say that everything else (aside from the rose bouquet) was a steal! Here is a break down for my fellow bargainistas...

Dining Room Light - $68
Frames - 2 for $19 each
Table Runner - $29
Serving Tray - $8.99
Fabric Pumpkins - 2 for $2.50 each
Tall Glass Display - $9.99
Smaller Glass Display - $6.99
Wrought Iron Candle display - $6.99
Flower Bouquet - $17.99
Vase Filler - 2 for $4.99 each

Basically everything came out to be about $200! Which is pretty good in my book. The pictures were taken by my guy when we went to Muir Woods last year. What I like about the centerpiece and pictures is that I can change it every season. Now that its Christmas I will replace the faux apples and cinnamon sticks with candy canes and ornaments. I will also change the bouquet to a mini christmas tree and the pumpkins to little snowman or whatever else I see fit as holiday charm. Cant wait to start decorating! Ill post new pics when I have it all together...

My favorite picture

How did you decorate for Fall?
