OCC Lip Tars Swatches & Review

>> Wednesday, December 1, 2010

Ok so Ive mentioned before on twitter that I LOVE OCC Lip Tars! I got a whole bunch of colors in sample sizes here a couple months ago for a really good price but unfortunately they dont sell them anymore :( ...but if your interested in purchasing them, here is the site where you can buy them directly for the full price and quantity ($12.50 for 8ml). OCC lip tars are opaque liquid lip colors that dry to a semi-matte lipstick finish. They are meant to be mixed together but since the color selection is so vast, a lot of the colors can stand on their own. Please see below for my breakdown and review

PROS
- These are EXTREMELY LONG LASTING. If youre going out for a night of hot sweaty dancing (or hot sweaty anything ;)) and you put one of these bad boys on, you will NOT have to re-apply...even through dinner! (unless of course you eat like a baby, you may have to re-apply...but just a tad bit)
- VERY PIGMENTED. When they say opaque, they mean it! and since they are so pigmented be aware that A LITTLE GOES A LOOOOONNNNG WAY. See pics below for exactly what I mean by that
- They have a minty scent to them, but its not overpowering by any means
- wide selection of color
- cruelty free :)

CONS
- They STAIN! This is a testament to their long lasting power. This is a big con to me because if you get some on your fingers or if it smears on your mouth while you are applying it, you WILL look like the joker.
- You MUST use a brush to apply these since they are so pigmented. If you dont already have one then this is just one extra cost on top of the $12.50 price tag. These lip tars need to be built up and you need to take care when applying them.
- Most colors will settle into the cracks of your lips so if you have chapped lips, you can NOT wear these. Once it sets it will dry your lips even more

COLORS & SWATCHES
This is how little you need to cover your whole mouth!

OCC Lip Tar in DIVINE
Its described on the site as a vivid pink flamingo color which I see true but when applied it barely looks pink! It looks like an extremely light peach color, like peach yogurt

OCC Lip Tar in CHA CHA
a creamy cantaloupe color

OCC Lip Tar in Memento
My favorite one!!! Ive worn this over 20 times and look how much I have left! This is the most wearable color and it is a mauvy dusty pink color...very pretty!

OCC Lip Tar in NSFW
The perfect red! Suitable for all skin tones in my opinion

OCC Lip Tar in Demure
A full fuchsia with a touch of violet. If Hoochie and Pageant had a baby, Demure would be it

OCC Lip Tar in Grandma
A warm coral color. This was actually the color I wanted to try the most but I find for my skin tone it isnt wearable at all! the orange undertone is way too strong for me

OCC Lip Tar in Hoochie
This a a beautiful, and very wearable purple magenta color. It just calls for a little black dress :)

OCC Lip Tar in Pageant
Similiar to Hoochie as this is a striking magenta color but has a more evident pink undertone. this reminds me of MAC's Girl About Town

Memento is the color that I will definitely purchase full price when I run out. The other colors I would love to try is ANIME, TROLLOP & MELANGE so if you have them, please direct me!

Hope you enjoyed this post and thanks for reading!!!

There are a few items that I REALLY REALLY REALLY NEED *WANT* but Im refraining from buying because I want to get these items for good quality as well as a good price. Here is where I need your help! Hopefully some of you want to know the answers to these questions as well....

Do you know a dupe for MAC's Highland Honey/Peaches that is from a brand CHEAPER than MAC?
I want to try that blush so badly but I don't see me wearing that color everyday. Im looking for a cheaper alternative and who knows? If I like the color I may just buy it MAC

Do you know of a good MASCARA that washes off easy AND can withstand an eyelash curler?
I hate wearing mascara because its such a pain to wash off! I cant wear falsies everyday so I need a good suggestion of one that its easy to wash off at night but still offers major volume and length. Most that do offer volume and length get clumpy when I curl them
Do you know of a LIP BALM that moistens AND repairs????
I stress the word "REPAIR" Im really bad at remembering to put chap stick on and by the time I remember its too late and my lips are already chapped! Its been more prevalent now that we are in winter and I need one that heals my lips, preferably one that doesn't hurt and has a strong smell...

So those are my burning questions...I thought I had more but guess not lol. Please be so kind as to answer these for me. If you have any questions as well, ask them in the comment form and I will be more than happy to answer you back on your blog or email (please include). Thanks!
